The link between stress and fat

Published by frogdoc at 11:33 am under Motivation Edit This

Interestingly enough, stress is a big contributor to being overweight. Being stressed does not necessarily make you fat, but it does inhibit the ability that your body has to burn fat. When your body is stressed, it releases a hormone called cortisol, which triggers your brain to think you need to store food rather than burn it. It’s believed that this reaction ‘evolved’ thousands of years ago to help humans when food supplies were short. Face it, cave men did not have to worry about their teenaged children driving or wonder how they were going to pay for college. How ever it came about, we deal with it now.

So, find a way in your life to de-stress. Whether it be exercising more (which is good for you anyway, right?), meditating, resetting your priorities, or blogging- anything you can do to reduce the stress in your life will reduce the levels of cortisol you have floating around in your bloodstream and the more you successful you will be at losing weight.
